You can collect custom parts and use them to customise your characters.
One type of custom part lets you change the special moves of fighters like Mario and Donkey Kong.
Each fighter possesses four special moves: standard special, side special, up special, and down special. Each of these can be customised, however, so there are three variations for each direction. This means there are two classifications for special moves: basic and custom.
However, Mii Fighters and Palutena don't have spin-off variations, but rather completely unique types of attacks.
You cannot use custom parts when playing With Anyone online. Please use these when playing With Friends.
Equipment is a type of custom part. You can use equipment to power-up fighters.
You can wear up to three pieces of equipment at a time. Equipment categories are Attack, Defence and Speed items.
It's not a simple matter of powering up every attribute, though. You can make it tougher for opponents to send you flying but pay for it with slower movement, or you can move more quickly but offset that advantage with weaker attacks. Your character's strength changes with each adjustment you make.
You collect equipment in the various game modes. The items may have the same name, but their performance will be slightly different.
By the way, the character's appearance will not be altered.
Mii characters created in Mii Maker can join the fun as fighters.
You can choose from three types of fighters; brawler, sword fighter and gunner. Additionally, each type has 12 types of special moves. (Four directions x three variations)
Under custom parts you can also change your fighter's headgear and outfit.
You won't be able to use Mii Fighters when playing With Anyone online, but the plan is to enable them for playing With Friends online.
